Dr. Ravindra Nanda and His Contribution in Orthodontistry

Dr Ravindra Nanda

Dr. Ravindra Nanda was born on 19th February 1943 in Lyallpur, British India. He was the youngest child in his family, and his father was also a doctor of medicine, who practiced there for 30 years.


From the Lucknow University, India, in the year 1964, Dr. Ravindra Nanda got his degree in the Bachelor of Dental Sciences. After graduating from the university, he started his internship as an Orthodontist in Lucknow, and for the further practice, he went to the University of Connecticut, which is situated in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. In 1967, he joined Katholieke Universiteit, Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and in the year 1969, he completed his Ph.D. He wrote the thesis on “Cephalometric Study of the Dentofacial Complex of North Indians”, and it was selected for the scholarship research by the Indian Council of Medical Research and it got published in the year 1969.

Profession Life:

In the year 1970, Professor Ravindra Nanda came to Loyola University, Maywood, Illinois to serve as an Assistant Professor. After teaching for two years in Maywood, Dr. Ravindra Nanda went to Connecticut in 1972 to join the University School of Dental Medicines. In the year 1992, he took the position of the Head of the Department of Orthodontics, and in the year 2004, he was promoted to lead the Department of Craniofacial Sciences that includes Orthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, and Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Nanda is the Head of the Department of Craniofacial Sciences, and he is also acting as the chair of the division of Orthodontics Department in the University Of Connecticut School Of Dental Medicines. He is considered as a pioneer in orthodontic appliances. Dr. Ravinder Nanda is a member of the North Atlantic component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. At present, he is the Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Orthodontics, the Associate Editor of Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, and he is also on the editorial board of nine national and international orthodontic journals. He has been the author and editor of seven textbooks in international orthodontic organizations. Dr. Nanda has been honored with a Life Time Membership to the Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS), in New Delhi, India.
